Garfield County's Red Mountain isn't a very powerful peak but it towers 1600' above Glenwood Springs and provides awesome views of the Roaring Fork Valley. Hikers will be treated to beautiful scenery, a moderate change in elevation, some back-country hiking tips, and a bit of history about the area as we ascend to the Glenwood Springs large cross (and depending on time, the mountain's summit). You will take the Red Mountain Trail up the Eastern slopes following a non-motorized private road. The route will be an 8+ mile round trip so plan on approximately 3 hours of hiking with lots of breaks as needed. Be prepared for all kinds of weather as it is spring in Colorado. Please be sure you have plenty of water and snacks, comfortable clothing and hiking shoes, and sunscreen.
